28 What is MLA Style?
MLA stands for Modern Language Association. MLA is a scholarly association with the aim to promote the teaching of language and literature. The formatting style that we use in ENGL 095 and ENGL 090 was created by MLA, hence MLA Style. The basics of formatting a paper in MLA Style includes the following:
- 12pt font
- Time New Roman (or another legible font)
- double-spaced
- header with last name and page numbers
- Heading in the top left corner of the first page
- your name
- instructor’s name
- course name
- date
- centered title (same font size, no underlining, no bold printing)
- NO extra space between paragraphs
