“The Rhythm of Hornworms”

Ashleigh Ashburn Multimedia

I was originally drawn to the topic of the Analysis of Gene Expression of the Timeless Gene in Manduca sexta Larvae Over The Circadian Day because the idea of studying the sleep cycles of a caterpillar was unique and intriguing. Throughout my creative process, I found myself drawn to the idea of clocks in nature, as well as the fascinating concept of circadian rhythms and the life cycle.

This is a multimedia composition created in Photoshop using stock imagery and drawn elements in Procreate. Titled “The Rhythm of Hornworms,” the piece centers around a clock, showcasing the day and night cycle alongside the stages of the hornworm’s life. Tomato plants are a huge part of the hornworm’s life, which is why I included them prominently. Additionally, I incorporated mushrooms as a personal touch, adding a hint of an “Alice in Wonderland” vibe to the composition.
