Keys to Communication: An Essential Guide to Communication in the Real World is adapted from Communication in the Real World: An Introduction to Communication Studies, a work produced and distributed under a CC BY-NC-SA license in 2013 by a publisher who has requested that they and the original author not receive attribution. The University of Minnesota Libraries published their edition of the book in 2016 through the eLearning Support Initiative.
Keys to Communication was edited and adapted by Jefferson Walker and published by the University of Montevallo Department of Communication with support from a 2023 grant from the University of Montevallo’s Faculty Development Advisory Committee. This edition has significantly revised and updated the original 2013 text and has replaced all of the images and figures. Additional content was written by Jefferson Walker. This work is made available under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license.
Chapter 8 contains additional material adapted, remixed, and curated from Introduction to Communication (Paynton and Hahn), shared under a CC BY-SA license and authored, remixed, and/or curated by Scott T. Paynton & Laura K. Hahn with Humboldt State University Students.
Chapters 10 and 11 were edited and adapted by Rachel Adams from a version of Communication in the Real World authored by James Madison University Communication Faculty, which was produced and distributed under a CC BY-NC-SA license in 2013. This updated edition of the text was published by Howard Community College in 2025, with support from a grant from the Center for Learning Excellence.
Chapter 12 contains additional material adapted, remixed, and curated from Understanding Media and Culture: An Introduction to Mass Communication, adapted from a work produced and distributed under a CC BY-NC-SA license in 2010 by a publisher who has requested that they and the original author not receive attribution.
