Artwork – “Chaotic Precision”

“Chaotic Precision”

Rachel Abe

Designing the art to go along with Umar and Paley’s study on chaos was an unique task. With a general understanding of their research, the idea to create a 3-dimensional pendulum immediately conceptualized. My work is a combination of suspended paper forms that were physically constructed, photographed and then edited in Photoshop CC. The result is ordinary clock pendulum that leaves a trail of fragmented pieces as it swings along its constrained path. This is an abstract illustration of a machine that has lapsed past the point at which chaos occurs. The ultimate goal is to engineer machines that perform just inside that point in order to keep chaos at bay.
